Disney World Day 9: Dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe

We took the Wilderness Lodge bus from Animal Kingdom to the Lodge for our dinner reservations. The Lodge itself is pretty cool. It is supposed to feel like a lodge in Yellowstone. It is beautiful.

We checked in and then waited forever for our reservations. We ended up getting in over an hour late. It was not fun. But while we waited, we found a Photo Pass photographer and got some family pictures in front of the Christmas tree.

My dad didn't want to do any so my mom and I did some with just us and Abi.

I wandered all over the lobby trying to keep Maddy entertained. There were a lot of fun places to take pictures. Here is Abi on the bridge over the 'geyser'.

When I saw the totem pole outside the gift shop I just had to get some pictures of the girls underneath it.. Abi did exactly what I wanted her to do...

Maddy... not so much.

Maddy just wanted to run around the lobby the entire time.

Finally, they called us up to the restaurant. I was really excited for this dinner because I had read so many good things about it. If you ask for ketchup they call out for it and everyone brings you ketchup so you end up with a ton of them. If you ask for a refill you get a bucket sized glass of soda. The interaction here sounded like so much fun. The food was supposed to be great.
Unfortunately we did not have this experience.
The waiter recommended getting the shakes so we did and those were good. The salad was also good.

We got the skillet meal that has a little of everything for everyone to share and Abi got the kids meal. She hardly ate anything. She liked the corn and the fruit but nothing else.

I thought the food was disgusting and felt sick all night afterward. The meat all kind of tasted like it was overcooked and over seasoned. The steak was no where near as good as it was the night before at Liberty Tree. The potatoes were horribly bland.
The chicken was the worst.
We all felt this way about it so it was a huge disappointment.

This could have been remedied by the environment if we had the experience I thought we would but our waiter wasn't friendly and hardly interacted with us at all. We finally asked if we could just get our dessert to go - we all got the fruit. We waited around for a few minutes so that Abi could be in the pony parade around the restaurant but I messed up by telling her about it but not mentioning that it was wooden ponies.
When they called the kids over to get their ponies she ran over full of excitement thinking she was going to be riding a real pony and was handed a wooden one. That was kind of funny but sad. Doug went over and got one too so he could 'ride' around with her but you can still see her grumpy face in the background.

The funniest thing about that was that I knew that if I had told her that it was wooden ponies she would have been so excited about it! But because of the disappointment she just couldn't enjoy it.

We were all glad to be getting out of there. There aren't buses from resort to resort so I decided that it would be fun to ride the boat from Wilderness Lodge over to Magic Kingdom and then catch the bus to Pop Century from there. It took a little longer than it would have to take a bus from the Lodge back to animal kingdom and the bus to Pop but it was fun.
It was very cold though so we all had to snuggle in for the ride.

We got back to the room and everyone fell asleep while my mom and I went to do laundry. The laundry room was full so we had to wait forever to get machines. It was an interesting night! We were doing laundry until 11:30... but at least I had my mom with me!

Next up: Downtown Disney

Sorry the food was a bust, but you got lots of cute pictures. Did you just pay a flat rate for a Photo Pass and then get to take as many as you wanted? I haven't heard of that before, but I am hoping it was something like that and that you didn't pay the normal $20 for each pciture. If we ever do Disneyworld I will have to get all kinds of tips from you.

Yeah it is a flat rate. What happens is if you go there and have the pictures taken you can go home and then pay the enormous amount for each picture or buy the whole CD of all the pictures for $150.
They give you a card that you hand to each photo pass person so you can keep track of all your photos.
BUT if you Pre-purchase your CD before your trip then it only cost $100.
My mom and I split the cost so we each spent $50 on it and got the CD of every picture. I saved over $100 not doing the ultimate package at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique that included the photo shoot but still got the photo shoot because of the photo pass so I actually saved money.

I didn't know that about the photo cd's. If we ever go again, then I will definitely keep that in mind. You guys really did do your research.

I haven't heard of so many of the places you went to including this restaurant, but now I know to not go there in the future...LOL.

I loved the picture of Abi and me! She's so sweet! All the pictures were fun! And at least the laundry time went by okay 'cause, yes, we were together!
