Today started out all crazy as Maddy got up around 5:30 and wouldn't go back to sleep. She was crying and I didn't want to wake the neighboring rooms or Doug and Abi so I packed her up to go with me to do laundry.
It was really cold outside so I bundled her up as much as I could but I think she was still cold. I took along some donuts, cheerios, and milk for her. She continued to be whiny and cried a lot the whole time I was getting the laundry done which made me cranky too.
I did two loads and so it took about an hour for both to get done.
I walked around the resort for awhile after dropping off the laundry in our room to try to get her to take a nap. She did end up falling asleep but as soon as we got back to the room she woke up.
So, it ended up that this day we were all tired and cranky except Abi. She was happy as could be.
I took these pictures right outside our room. She loved this giant soccer ball.
We decided to go over to the playground and let them play for awhile.
I thought it would be fun to eat at T-Rex at Downtown Disney for lunch so we soon drove over there. It was packed though and we couldn't find a parking spot. We were all already on the cranky side so going back to the resort and catching a bus over to lunch didn't sound fun. So, we decided to go to the McDonalds inside of Disney world instead.
It was normal McDonalds food- just a little more expensive than normal. It was a much fancier McDonalds than normal.
After lunch we drove over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort. I wanted to check out a few of the other resorts during our stay and thought today would be a good day to see some of the ones we wouldn't be eating at.
I was also told you can see animals in the resort Savannah so we were looking forward to that.
Here is the lobby to Animal Kingdom Lodge.
We saw zebras, kudus, and pelicans as well as a little lizard that scurried away down a drain. I asked a cast member if there were any other animals and he told us to head over to the pool and there would be another viewing area.
On our way back to the lobby we saw this little cute guy...
looking at the back of the lobby...
We made our way to the other area and sure enough, we were rewarded by seeing giraffes!
We also saw flamingos. They had a pretty cool pool and a much nicer playground so we let Abi play for awhile.
Then she wanted to swim so we headed back to our room.
It was nice and much warmer this afternoon.
Abi had a great time at the pool and was able to play for quite a while. She was doing this funny thing putting her hair in the water... not sure why.
She got brave to pull the shower cord herself too..
After swimming we took Maddy back to the room for a nap. I left her with Doug so he could get one too and Abi and I went to the food court where we got mug refills and shared a small chocolate cake snack.
Then we spent some time browsing the gift shop and bought our first souvenirs... a pair of Minnie flip flops for me and a Tinkerbell jibits for Abi's crocs (which we later lost)
Then we went into the arcade and walked around. We experienced some Disney magic when Abi pushed a button on a bowling game and got to play for free. We found that most days we could go in the arcade and play a few games for free.
After this we went back to our room. Along the way Abi said something about Disney magic and I said, "because Disney World is where the magic happens." and Abi said ,"Yes! And where wishes come true!" I thought that was sweet.
When we got back to the room, Doug and Maddy were still asleep so we quickly went back out and played Twister for awhile.
Then we went back to the room again. Maddy woke up but was still a little grumpy. I fed her . Finally when Abi started to color, Maddy got the markers and Voila- she was a happy baby.
We went to the food court again for dinner.
Abi had the cheese pizza kids meal with pudding, grapes, and apple juice. She loved it and ate it so fast.
I had the fried chicken meal which was not great. The chicken didn't have much flavor. It came with some really good cornbread however and the potatoes were good. I had a Diet Coke and shared a chocolate croissant with the girls. That was pretty good too.
Doug had a Monster drink, the BBQ bacon cheeseburger with fries, and a Mickey ice cream bar for dessert. He said it was okay but a little dry.
After dinner we changed and drove to the Polynesian resort. It was another one I wanted to check out. They wouldn't let us into the parking area because it was full so we drove back over to the Grand Floridian and rode the monorail around and got off at the Polynesian. (The monorail goes in a circle stopping at the Grand Floridian, the Contemporary resort, the Polynesian resort, the Ticket and Transportation Center, and Magic Kingdom)
We walked out to the back of the resort to their beach.
It was beautiful and so relaxing.
Abi loved playing in the sand and building sand castles and I loved the great view and fun soft music.
We watched the Electrical Water Pageant from the beach- the main reason I wanted to go. It is a bunch of floats out on the water that light up and they play music. It happens every night and is free.
The girls were spellbound.
We were going to stay to watch Magic Kingdom's fireworks from here as well but it was just getting too late and the girls were tired.
We took our time walking back through the grounds and lobby...
Abi liked their kiddie pool shower.
This picture was taken in their lobby. That is a waterfall behind Doug and Abi.
Their Christmas tree...
We rode the monorail back to the Grand Floridian and drove back to our room. The girls both fell asleep in the car again.
We got the girls in their jammies and to bed and Doug went to get ice and sodas.
After such a grumpy day it was so nice to have it end the way it did.
Doug and I both agreed that while the Animal Kingdom Lodge was cool it just wasn't our style and we wouldn't want to stay there. The Polynesian however, I would totally stay in!
